My initial Letter to Dr. Paul Gosar

Dear Dr. Gosar,

As a retired Navy pilot, I am very concerned about the fate of our veterans and the support programs serving them. Can you please share with me what your perspective is on the current efforts to scale that support back? I am interested in knowing what level of support in the way of programs and funding in this area you believe is appropriate.

For context, despite my four years of active duty during the so-called Cold War, I receive no veterans’ benefits. That’s okay; I signed up knowing that would be the case in advance. I would do it again in a heartbeat (though I admit the Navy may not be too excited about signing up a 91 year old pilot).

I view support for these men and women who have served us as a moral and patriotic obligation of the greatest magnitude; their service should not be vulnerable to erratic manipulations. I also strongly support efforts to insure this obligation is carried out with organizational efficiency and fiscal responsibility. If more work is necessary in that regard, how can it be accomplished without degrading benefits to our veterans?

Please share with me your views on this issue. Also, please advise me on how I can be most effectively heard regarding this matter.

Respectfully,
Al Bell
