Electing Tim Stringham as Maricopa County Recorder is one of the most important things voters can do on November 5th!
Many important choices confront Arizonans on November 5th. Two choices are of particular importance because of the fundamental leverage they provide. By ”fundamental leverage” we mean that the effect is multiplied over time as they improve the systems into which they are built.
First, the “Game Changer” is Proposition 140, the Make Elections Fair Arizona Act. Our elections will serve all Arizonans better once the Act is in place, as explained elsewhere on our website (azindvoters.net). The leverage value of this initiative is one of the greatest in Arizona’s 112 year history.
Second, the “Game Saver” is Tim Stringham, candidate for Maricopa County Recorder. He will extend the decades-long record of Maricopa County election officials in delivering competent, reliable, voter-centric election operations in Arizona’s most populous County.
Arizona enjoys safe and secure elections, despite incessant attack by extreme Republicans in recent years. That is especially true in massive Maricopa County, home to about four of every seven Arizonans. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors handles election day operations and vote counting; the Recorder handles voter registration and early voting, including popular mail-in voting. This partnership has successfully rebutted relentless attacks by those intent on sowing distrust and disrespect for what is nationally recognized as a highly competent operation under conservative management.
Is the system perfect? No. Do mistakes happen? Yes.
Our elections are one of the most intensely monitored governmental functions, carried out in real time by partisan observers. Verification and audit procedures are intense. Maricopa County’s 2020 election operation successfully withstood a politically driven, incompetent audit that wasted millions of dollars of taxpayer money. It also fueled a mentality of distrust that haunts us still.
The cost of accurate election results is eternal vigilance, and that is what the system provides.
Do legitimate questions exist?
Absolutely. Questions by concerned citizens must get proper attention. While the system performs with pre-election testing and audits to insure accuracy, it can always be improved. People make mistakes and accidents sometimes happen. While disruptive, they are typically resolved by built-in system reliability and verification procedures.
The threats and intimidation directed toward elections staff has resulted in many experienced professionals leaving the field, taking with them years of irreplaceable experience. Audits and attorneys can be paid for, but no amount of money assures respect and trust. Frivolous and ill-informed challenges in recent years have done nothing to improve our election systems.
What is our best way forward now?
Elect Tim Stringham as Maricopa County Recorder. Tim will build on the excellent work of Stephen Richer, our current widely respected Recorder. Tim’s background and character are exceptional assets that equip him for the challenge ahead. Voters can count on his honoring an election system that treats the voter as the primary beneficiary of our elections, rather than political organizations with narrow agendas. This is the stuff of American civic achievement, deserving of public respect and trust.
